Description[?]:

History
The Party was founded in 3292 by the Rev Tobias Clarke. The inaugural meeting was held in the family’s home, Cathedral Square, Metapontum, Fuwan. Early backers were made up of the educated middle classes, academics, bishops, many of the infamous Fuwan avant-garde art set, award winning film directors, bohemian types, and students. In the general election of 3294 the party secured 20% of the vote and Rev Clarke became Senate Warden, a position he held until 3300 when he swept to the Presidency in a landslide, scoring a record 60% of the vote in the second round. Clarke remained in the Presidency until 3311 winning 6 elections. During this decade massive social changes were introduced in the nation, with personal liberty and freedom at the forefront of every government decision. During these years Clarke governed largely in coalition with the DRP. The parties worked closely together to defeat regressive social changes proposed by the 2406 and Unionist parties. Highlights of Clarke’s time in office were the groundbreaking Decennial Art Festival and the Protest at the Palace event. These years have broadly defined Solentian politics ever since.

In 3323 Issy Brown became leader of the party. Brown was from the 'red', socialist wing of the party and quickly moved policy to the left in terms of the economy and government responsibilities. Brown served as President for 9 years, winning 3 elections and working closely with the short lived and rather moderate Communist Party.

In 3335 Lucy Greenmir won the Presidency and here began a Liberal rule that lasted 43 years with only 1 interruption. Lucy Greenmir's tenure became dominated by foreign affairs. Greenmir was committed to forging closer ties with the Republic of Dranland and thus she was foundational in the Dranland-Solentia Friendship Treaty. The DSFT has remained the Liberal Party's key foreign policy objective to this day. In 3344 came the toughest test for Greenmir when Solentian Secret Services handed her evidence of a potential invasion by the Karavs of Beluzia. The President acted quickly and decisively on the world stage, taking action which many believe made any invasion of Solentia almost impossible for the Karavs to undertake.

In the years that followed the Liberals faced little political challenge at home allowing William Clarke to become the parties 5th successful Supreme President who continued to build Solentia's standing on the world stage.

In the early 3380's the Liberals faced threats from new parties and a revived FIP, who in coalition forced the Liberals into opposition for the first time in decades and set about dismantling the 'liberal settlement' won by Liberal founder Tobias Clarke just under 100 ago. For the first time in the Parties history an 'elite outsider' Joey Simonds was appointed Presidential candidate by the CG. Simonds fought two elections, seeing the rightwing government reduced to a minority in the senste. Inevitably he stood aside leaving the CG the opportunity to appoint Jonathan Greenmir, former High Ambassador to Drandland, and son of former President Lucy Greenmir.

Durring this period the Liberals worked closely with other progressive parties, namely the SDP, DSP, and the disbanded CUP in a group known as the FfS. Greenmir fought three elections in total, but failed to make any major advance for the party. In a major set back the Liberals were overtaken in terms of vote share by alternative progressive parties, something unknown since the Liberals formation.

In 3398 the CG appointed Marc DuPont 3 term governor of Fuwan as Leader. DuPont bridges the gap between the elite and non-elite factions of the party. His roots are firmly outside the family structures, yet his 9 years at the top of Fuwan politics has earned him many friends and much respect among this powerful group. On taking the leadership DuPont immediately promoted key allies, most notably rising star Esther Read, former leader of 'Liberal Youth'. Together the pair redefined liberal values, and formulated a structured, coherent policy platform, particularly in the area of government and economics. However these policy shifts proved to have little impact on the electorate. Growing despondency within the elite of the party led to the Campaign Group taking the historic decision to disband the active political wing of the party in 3402.

For the next 140 years the party existed essentially in the form of what could be described as a social pressure group, campaigning on issues of personal liberty, social justice and internationalism.

This situation prevailed entirely unchanged until 3541 when the Campaign Group appointed Amiele Clarke, a great (x6) granddaughter of a certain Sir Tobias. For the first time in well over a century the Clarke’s had reconnected with their ‘liberal’ network in a way that for those involved was tangibly electric. The nation at this time was held in the grasp of the Merchants Guild, an authoritarian, capitalist, fascist, greedy, deceitful, lying, shameful band of robbers... Amiele Clarke sensing a moment of destiny made a decision... and so Liberal Renewal was born. In the elections that followed the Liberals won a famous victory with a clean sweep of results across the nation.

Party Constitution

Preamble
The Liberal Party exists to build a Liberal Society in which every citizen shall possess liberty, property and security, and none shall be enslaved by poverty, ignorance or conformity. Its chief care is for the rights and opportunities of the individual and in all spheres it sets freedom first.

Liberal Party Beliefs
1. Liberals believe in the equality of personal worth of every individual. We rejoice in the diversity of humanity and uphold the rights of minorities. We work for a society which will maximise the life chances of every individual and guarantee the liberty to live without restrictions, except for those which are required by the liberty of others.

2. Liberals aim to spread wealth and power and to ensure that everyone has access to food, clothing, shelter, education, health care and the protection of the law.

3. The economy of a truly Liberal society will be sustainable without depending on the use of non-renewable resources, will meet the needs of people both as workers and as consumers, and will work in harmony with nature.

4. Liberals believe that a system of government is necessary; but for government to be acceptable there must be fair and effective representation and freedom of information. We believe that decisions are best taken at the most local practical level to allow the maximum public participation.

5. Liberals have faith in free and rational debate as the means of reaching decisions. We resist prejudice in all its forms, oppose vested interests and believe that everyone should be equal before the law.

6. Liberals aim to create an open and outward looking society which is honest and generous in its dealings with the rest of the world and always ready to promote the cause of liberty.
