Description[?]:
"My definition of a free society is a society where it is safe to be unpopular." -Adlai Stevenson Jr. The Centre is a party of the individual. It is our belief that the government should be a fluid contract between independent individuals and should serve the needs of the those individuals to its greatest degree. This means that often the government's best action is inaction. Groups that interfere with the rights of the individual simply to promote their unique ideology are abhorrent to us. "The love of liberty is the love of others; the love of power is the love of ourselves." - William Hazlitt To maintain this contract, a freedom of information must be maintained. No individual should be persecuted for expressing an opinion based on that opinion's "acceptableness." "Inconvenience does not absolve the government of its obligation to tolerate speech." - Justice Anthony Kennedy A free and unrestricted media is required to allow the interchange of these individual opinions. It should never be hampered simply because it is not enjoyed by all. "A free press can of course be good or bad, but, most certainly, without freedom it will never be anything but bad. . . . Freedom is nothing else but a chance to bet better, whereas enslavement is a certainty of the worse." - Albert Camus Also to this effect, in order to allow fluidity in society, the individual should be allowed to determine their own market decisions. The government should only interfere to deter or combat externalities which cannot be properly dealt with in the status quo. “The great virtue of a free market system is that it does not care what colour people are; it does not care what their religion is; it only cares whether they can produce something you want to buy. It is the most effective system we have discovered to enable people who hate one another to deal with one another and help one another.” - Milton Friedman The government should never adopt or protest the personal doctrines of its citizenry. It should be willing to make decisions pragmatically and in the best interest of all. |
