Bill: Alternate Adoption Reform Bill

Details

Submitted by[?]: AM Populist Social Democrats

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: September 2355

Description[?]:

Whereas, We understand the desire to assure that adopted children go to good homes, and

Whereas, We understand the reasoning behind the well-intentioned proposal that requires that children be adopted by couples only, and

Whereas, We will even concede that two parent homes are likely to be better than single parent homes, but

Whereas, We believe that not all single parent homes should be automatically rules out, and

Whereas, We are willing instead to more strictly regulate adoption, even giving couples an advantage in adopting children rather than single parents,

We hereby propose to withdraw the absolute law that only couples may be adopt children, but to replace it with stricter government scrutiny of those who wish to adopt, with the presumption made that couples are generally to be preferred to single parents.

MessageWe would support Article 1, however we cannot condone anyone other than (heterosexual) couples adopting children. As this moves us vastly away from our stated position we shall vote against.
