Bill: Radio and TV act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Socialist Workers Union

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: September 2360

Description[?]:

With "Big Brothers Watching" and "I'm overpaid get me out of here", ruining the brain cells of the impressionable young, we feel that the current tv and radio acts are helping the private companies make drivel and we propose that all radio and tv stations are independent non profit making companies that recieve state subsidises to help make much better programs for everyone.

MessageWe think the right honourable member is having a bit of a joke. There isn't freedom of speech as the private owned companies that run the TV and Radio stations are very biased towards the right wing parties.

MessageI suspect that the SWU believes that the LPI is a 'right-wing' party. This, of course, is a shameful conflation of liberalism and absolutism, which are distinct political movements.

MessageOf course, one suspects that what the SWU believes to be 'free speech' is 'all speech which happens to agree with the SWU'.

MessageYou are avowedly capitalist and include "liberal" in your party name. And you clearly have a classical-liberal bent. That's right wing.

Random fact: The people in your nation don't like inactive parties. When you often abstain from voting for a bill, they will dislike your party and your visibility to the electorate will decrease significantly. Low visibility will means you are likely to lose seats. So keep in mind: voting Yes or No is always better than Abstaining.

Random quote: "He who is unable to live in society, or who has no need because he is sufficient for himself, must be either a beast or a god." - Aristotle
