Bill: Education Reform Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Absolutist Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: November 2362
Description[?]:
In order to better educate our chidlren, we propose these sensible reforms. Article One: In some places, with the cutoff dates, it is possible to earn a diploma by age 17, if one's date of birth falls in the months when school is not in session. Udner this law, overzealous administrators may force an extra year of schooling. This leaves the option open that one may drop out at age 17, technically, but who would drop out with 6 months to go? If they drop out, then they are not motivated for better jobs anyway. Article Two: On hands expierence is a much better test than testing, when one may get nervous, to the point of failure, even if they know what they are doing better than anyone else in the testing seats. Also, student creativity is not a solid concept, for two reasons. 1- If a student is simply not gifted with creativity, but still knwos the material, is it fair to exclude them? 2- One teacher's concept of creativity may be completely different from anothers. |

Message | Article 1 does seem to be sound and we have no problem with it. But as for article 2, the AP does not seem to understand the system of assessment. We have an open-ended system emphasising learning more than answering questions on a test. Teachers are expected to grade based on holistic factors, such as the student's general attitude towards learning, knowledge of the material, intellectual maturity, etc. These are inevitably subjective, of course, but possible injustices can be elimination with an appeal or review system where several of the student's different teachers can contribute their own assessment. And there is also the tested element to balance it out. Most people at school age have a very poor idea of what job they would wish. It is also much too early to be streaming them into professions or occupations, or focusing on job-oriented skills. It just doesn't seem like a good policy. School is for intellectual development, not direct job training. |

Message | We still feel that 18 is an approiate age, I am sure that most adults will not mind being in school a little while longer to help them prepare for life. |

Message | So you are saying that if someone is at the top of their class, they can be forced to remain in school, even if they do not wish to? Proof of the SWU fascism. |
