MessageYes, the MAJORITY are in favour of such a law. We must, though, preserve the civil rights of our people so that they may assemble in peace as it is a basic human right. Even though the majority wants the contrary, we shouldn't enforce it on the minority or reduce the amount of rights and freedoms our people have.

MessageEven if most of them want their civil rights to be restricted? (in fact, on the opinion bars, the citizens of darnussia ARE in favour of having restrictive civil rights).

As for the other point, let me give an example. Say that we are in a state of war with another nation. Say the majority of people want peace, and there is no reason to continue warring, should we carry on fighting because of the scant, xenophobic minority who would like very much to continue with warfare?

I think not. Yet what you are saying is effiectively that we should place tenets that we, as party leaders, hold dear rather than citizens of the nation we're supposed to be governing upon Darnussia, and then refuse to acknoweldge the public's support for a change in the law unless the whole nation is in unanimous agreement.

MessageNay, we're elected to represent the people. If the people wanted every Friday to be "Sex Day," then we'll damn well do it.

MessageCouldn't have put it better myself. :)

Unless the people want us to do something which is disastrous in anyone's books, such as kill everyone else, then of course it should not be introduced. However, the aspect of civil liberties is relative, and whether or not it is something that should be protected above all else is debateable.
[and going by your last comment, this bill could possibly be the best bet in the long run anyway....who knows what it could prevent?]
