Bill: Strength in Unity

Details

Submitted by[?]: Union Hosienne-Démocrate (UHD)

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: October 2435

Description[?]:

It has come to the attention of the Party that our current military stance, while adequate, can be changed with the adoption of better options that present to Terra the nature and feelings of the people of the Confederation.

Given the predisposition of the people towards isolationism (55%), we of the DLP feel that the national intelligence policy should concentrate solely on the protection of ourselves directly. We propose that the intelligence service not bow to the pressure of an aggressor by imposing our wills upon other nations.

What better way for the young people of the Confederation, to truly foster unity and strength (as our motto goes) than for them to serve their nation in some capacity or another. This not only helps serve the nation and strengthens it, this act would allow for future leaders to gain experience while serving others. We propose that the young of the nation, upon completion of school, engage in mandatory service to the nation either through the military or another government sponsored and sanctioned activity.

To truly unify the nation both physically and spiritually, women must be given the opportunity to serve the nation alongside men in in complete equality.

MessageAlthough we have no objection to article 3, the others are objectinable, and as such we would vote against. but we are likley to support the third article proposed alone

MessageWe are against all of these. Our intelligence service, while it does not routinely operate in other countries should have the capacity to do so if need arises. We see no need for routine conscription in times of peace

MessageAs for article 3 the current policy does enable women to serve the nation in complete equality as men also serve in segregated units.

MessageWhy would our intelligence agency need to operate within another soverign nation? The country still apparently has a nuclear deterent, much to our dismay, but yet needs to enter another country when threatened? I fail to see the point.

Are we to be an oppressor nation? Conjolling others to our will? Or are we to be a nation that leads by example?

For what reason would the Confederation have to meddle in the internal affairs of another????

An equality of oppression? We believe women should be able to serve in their units right alongside men in any capacity. Why waste time and energy segregating units and ensuring their separation?

Men and women work alongside eachother in the workspace, but not in the army? The armed forces are not a college dormitory!

As for the National Service proposal; the DLP feels it is imperative for the young to participate in government. This builds a unified nation through common experience, leadership opportunities and a sort of on-the-job training. For those who do not wish to engage in military activities, there are other civilian opportunities available to them.

MessageArticle 2 is strongly supported by the DLP. The Party strongly supports and respects the PDC but we will have to maintain these stances. The impotence we have in government is not lost on us but we must insist on keeping our support for the bill regardless of its defeat.

Random fact: The people in your nation don't like inactive parties. When you often abstain from voting for a bill, they will dislike your party and your visibility to the electorate will decrease significantly. Low visibility will means you are likely to lose seats. So keep in mind: voting Yes or No is always better than Abstaining.
