Bill: National Anthem Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Christian Universalist Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: January 2446
Description[?]:
Jesus's "Sermon on the Mount" would make a beautiful national anthem for Indrala, and show the world the values Indralan people - Christian or not - hold dear. Unlike our existing anthem and the anthems of most other nations in Terra, this anthem has nothing to with "war" or "fighting". Instead, it promotes values like peace-making, mercy, meekness and searching for righteousness. Contrary to what some people might think, the anthem we are proposing is not "traditional" or "religious" or "conventional"; instead, it is the most radical possible statement we could make to the world about what our nation stands for. |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change The lyrics of the national anthem.
Old value:: Indrala, Indrala, blessed isle in the sea, Land of strength and liberty, From the mountains to the sea, A land beautiful and free, Indrala, Indrala, defended by the sea, Let no Indralan yield an inch, Let every citizen stand firm, To defend our beloved homeland, Indrala, we fight for you
Current:
(Yingdalan Version) 武宗在上、於昭于天。 武雖舊宗、其命維新。 有武不顯、帝命不時。 武宗陟降、在帝左右。 (Luthorian Version) The House of Wu is on high, Oh! Bright is it in Heaven. Although the Wu are an old clan, Heaven favored it only recently. Illustrious is the House of Wu, And the appointment of God came at the proper time. The House of Wu ascends and descends, On the left and right hand of God. |
Proposed:
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. |

Message | We cannot accept such a blatantly religious and, at that, Christian, national anthem. Indrala is a country for all peoples and the anthem should be for all of them. |

Random fact: "Game mechanics comes first." For example, if a currently-enforced bill sets out one law, then a player cannot claim the government has set out a contradictory law. |
Random quote: "Thousands of Zardic soldiers were sacrificed so that the Zardic government could gain control of a few buildings and Theodoro could pretend to be Augustus the Great. This is the kind of jingoistic ideology Zardugal would bring to the Security Council. They will throw countless lives away in pursuit of former glory." - Prince Akhaias, former Coburan royal |
