Bill: Intelligence Reform
Details
Submitted by[?]: Democratic Reform Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: September 2452
Description[?]:
The previous leader of our Intelligence Agency had taken advantage over the wide-ranging powers granted to him and conducted some rather unsavory operations. He has already been sacked, but that will not be going far enough. This bill will prevent the agency from taking offenisve action. Such tactics should be left to the military, and only in times of war. |

Message | Imagine this scenario: A rogue dictatorship somewhere on Terra has a nuclear arsenal. Secretly, they plan to launch missiles at Talmoria, with no formal declaration of war. Our spies catch wind of this plan, due to having infiltrated their military. The launch sites are well out of strike range of our bombers, and if we declare war on them, they will likely launch the missiles immediately and annihilate us. We can use our covert operatives to disable their nuclear arsenal, without anyone ever needing to know. We can declare war, and before we can draw up new legislation to allow our intelligence services to carry out any kind of operations, we all die. The PCP do not support this bill, due to these concerns. |
