Bill: KEYMON SUPREME COURT: Composition

Details

Submitted by[?]: Christian Democrats

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: August 3319

Description[?]:

The members of Keymon's Supreme Court:

* * * Justice Uma Nagoya (Democratic Republican Party, appointed 2456 to 2461)
* * * Justice Michael Baine Keymon (Christian Nationalist, appointed 2456 to 2466)
* * * Justice Tom Foley (Progressive Labor, appointed 2456 to 2471)

Justice Arnold Douglas-Raine (Christian Nationalist, appointed 2456 to 2476)
Justice George Tharper (Security and Economy, appointed 2456 to 2481)
Justice Patrick J. Patrick Esq. (Real Labour Party, appointed 2465 to 2485)
Justice Hannah Newbridge (Real Labour Party, appointed 2469 to 2489)
Justice Nevets Nook (Real Labor Party, appointed 2471 to 2491)

The original justices were appointed to staggered terms to simulate different life spans and to prevent a total court wipeout in twenty years. New justices are appointed to 20-year terms (the typical life of a justice in power.)

POWERS OF THE SUPREME COURT

Any party may ask a justice to delay passage of legislation. If a stay is placed upon legislation, the five justices must vote on the constitutionality of the legislation, and may overturn any legislation. That means our nation's laws may say one thing, but our actual roleplay laws may be something else if a law on the books has been declared unconstitutional. If a party isn't around to roleplay their justice's vote due to being inactive, the justice votes in accordance with the party's stances. If there is a dispute, the current Head of Government will rule.

Vacancies to the court are filled by the Head of Government, who may nominated people to the Assembly for approval.

"I have asked the Supreme Court to put a hold on this legislation, and Justice Arnold Douglas-Raine has agreed. I submit that this legislation is against Keymon law. Article 11 of the Constitution declares the territorial integrity of Keymon to be inviolable. This legislation, designated Bill 141688, grants citizenship to all nationals and allows anyone to declare themselves to be a national. These laws, taken together, mean we hand over majority voting rights to anybody who travels to our country in enough numbers. We thus allow our nation to be invaded and conquered by tourists. Note that Keymon has a million people, fewer than a million native Keymonians. Our closest neighbors all have a hundred million. If even 1% of their people travel here, we are a minority in our own country. If 2% of their people travel here, we are not just a minority, but a constitutional minority - and they, with a constitutional majority, can change our laws and hand over our country to foreign states."

-- Director General Kenner Giles

"We justices cast our two votes in favor of striking down this law as unconstitutional. Our two votes represent two of the five votes. One more vote from one more justice will represent three, and will strike down this law as being unconstitutional."

-- Justice Arnold Douglas-Raine and Justice Michael Baine Keymon
