| Message | That is a controversial position CS, and one that we do not share. We subscribe to the view of most medical scientists, who assert that prior to the third trimester, an embryo does not yet exhibit the features which distinguish it from any other cellular conglomerate. As such, we believe the real issue at stake here is the right of a women to control her own body, which we of course support. Besides which, in terms of practicality, the rates of death resulting from black market abortions in countries which ban them is simply aweful, and intollerable in a civilised society. (As you can tell, we favor the legalisation of abortion in the first and second trimesters, but that proposal is unlikely to attract much support in the present national climate). |
