Message | I disagree. A routine check-up would find out if the person(s) adopting has a history of child abuse, but it could also discover other things that would make people unsuitable for adopting. |

Message | We support this. The law is quite clear: regulation is used to screen out ONLY those with a previous history of child abuse. Any adoption agency found to be using the background check to evaluate the candidate on other bases will be brought to court. I understand how some would be afraid of adopting with a background check in place due to being a religious minority, gay, a white-collar criminal, etc., but the law is in this case crystal clear. Message | I guess then we allow murders to adopt once this bill has passed (as long is it was not a child they killed). People without income, with no means of supporting a child, will also be able to adopt (child benefits is not enough to support a family). Drug-dealers are allowed. It is not just people convicted of child abuse who can be harmful to children |

Message | You misunderstand. Adoption agencies can still use discretion in evaluating potential parents; they just can't use the governmentally-mandated background check as a basis to screen for other things. This is a matter of the extent of regulation, not the extent of adoption rights in general. Senator Bogart Camazotz |

Message | I agree with Senator Camazotz, while the mandate from the government is there, what adoption agency would willing let a murderer adopt a child. |
