Bill: 7th Dada Manifesto (Prisoner Education)
Details
Submitted by[?]: Endralonian Situationist Collective
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: March 2101
Description[?]:
As we have argued before, a policy of re-educating prisoners during their stay in custody increases the likelihood that they will be able to secure legitimate and profitable employment when they re-enter society, and thus decreases the likelihood that they will reoffend. This policy, we believe, would contribute significantly to adressing the issue of criminality in Endralon. |

Message | So KP would rather pay for the constant re-aprehension, trial process, and incarceration of repeat offenders? This program will ultimate reduce the cost of policing. That should be abundantly obvious. The cost of crime can be reduced by investing in the prevention of repeat offending. |

Message | Oh, right, good idea. Imprisoning petty theives for life is a cheaper option that keeping them out of jail altogether! Whoops, how could we have missed that, oh Minister of Justice? From which university did you get your qualification? I certainly hope it wasn't one in Endralon, that would reflect rather badly on us. Stupid. |

Message | As an economically educated person I think that as long as there are people who are in trouble and can't do anything about it. Then I will not stand for people who th ings wrong and try to ruin other persons lives. I'm not talking about thievery I'm talking about murder and rape. People who commit thievery mostly don't get many years and don't need rehabilitation. If you are talking about just thievery and minor crimes then KP will support this. But there will be no programs for major crimes. |

Message | (Irritatingly, the old "Criminal Punishment" axis has vanished in the new election algorithm!) For consistency alone we vote against this. We're shooting in the dark when it comes to public opinion on this! (There hasn't been a poll on this issue here since the new system. But look at this unrelated poll I found in the world news: May 2099 Opinion Poll An opinion poll was held among the citizens of the People's Free Republic of Rildanor. The subject of the opinion poll was The constitutional right and responsibility to propose a cabinet to the legislature. When asked what their opinions were, the following choices were made: Percentage Choice 100.00% Only the Head of State can propose a cabinet coalition. 0.00% Only the largest parties can propose a cabinet. 0.00% Each party can propose a cabinet coalition. Expect crazy things for a while as this system beds in!!) |

Message | KP, we mean educating prisoners up to the standard of society at large, as well as full-scale rehabilitation for violent crime and sex offenders. |

Message | If you don't rehabilitate, they will definitely reoffend. The idea of prison is to punish but also to ensure they won't reoffend. EDP is quite right that it will cost more to accomodate criminals for life than to pay for some education and give them a chance of fitting into society when they get out. |

Random fact: Party candidates for head of state elections are not visible to the public. This means that you cannot see who will run and who will not, which adds another strategic element to the elections. |
Random quote: "Global warmers predict that global warming is coming, and our emissions are to blame. They do that to keep us worried about our role in the whole thing. If we aren't worried and guilty, we might not pay their salaries. It's that simple." - Kary Mullis |
