Bill: Region Name Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Constitutional Monarchy Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: March 2481

Description[?]:

Due to the ridiculas confusion caused by the recent political revolution, the name "Republic" was adopted instead of "province". Although Province was fine how it was, the revolutionaries wanted to change it. We propose that a more suitable name is adopted to avoid confusion. "Republic" would imply a seperate country in each region.

Message... which is accurate, we are in a state of civil war against republicanism.

MessageCounty? Come on, our nation has millions of people. The previous regions are large enough to be considered republics. Why do you think our name had to be changed to Beluzian AND Bailon?

MessageOC: From what I can gather that article forgets the Republic's within the Russian Federation which are autonomous to a point but still send representatives to the Duma (?)etc. For Example the Republic of Karelia.
Russia is made up of a number of different forms of regions; Republic's, autonomous okrugs, oblasts, krais, federal cities and one autonomous oblast.

MessageThere is no definition to how large a "county" should be, yet in my mind a Republic is an entirely separate entity from another Republic. I take the honourable member of the NMRPs point, but in general a republic is defined as stated in the links provided in the bill title.
The PPP have previously stated the reason for the inclusion of Bailon in our national title, the fact that Bailon is the Imperial homeland of the Grand Emperor. There is also the population reason, but we are a nation, not a soviet union of sorts.

Messageooc: I actually like the "county" name just fine, but if this game is to have a shred of realism we are embroiled in an ultra-violent civil war atm.

Messageooc: as far as i can tell there has been no civil war. The Liberal Party has not expressed any violent intent. We have had a civil war already this century, the Monarchists won that one.

Messageooc: Zogists are in a constant state of war, but since the dethroning of Zog will haved been devoting themselves almost exclusively to bringing death to the enemy. IMO if the game were realistic military might and stratagem would handily defeat party politics, but as it is we can only verbally express our violent outrage regarding the overturning of our nation.

MessageOoc: my point is that all games have limits to their realism, and this is one. Votes don't carry power in reality, military, economic and social forces do. As far as me defeating you in this game, I just have to wait. There is a pendulem of power designed into particracy. Zog has been crowned emperor twice before, so why not assume the third times the charm? ;)

MessageThe article you cite gives examples of sub-national republics, since republicanism is a form of government, not a synonym for nation or country.

My only regret is the capital letter in 'Republic.'

Random fact: Jelbic = "Group of cultures with an overall Central Asian/Eurasian steppe theme, using a fictional language developed specifically for Particracy".

Random quote: "A return to first principles in a republic is sometimes caused by the simple virtues of one man. His good example has such an influence that the good men strive to imitate him, and the wicked are ashamed to lead a life so contrary to his example." - Niccolo Machiavelli
