Bill: Ratification of the The Minority Languages Treaty

Details

Submitted by[?]: Lourenne Democratic Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill proposes for the ratification of a treaty. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor[?]. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: February 2492

Description[?]:

This bill asks for the ratification of the The Minority Languages Treaty. If this treaty is ratified, it becomes binding and will define national law.

As it is, the major language is Français. English is also in common use. However, our native population of Xinca, Mayans, Cajuns and Miskito are proud of their ethnicities and this treaty provides recognition of their languages.

French is the national language, English is second to French but compulsory in schools. Provinces are left to decide what other languages should be offered in their respective schools based on cultures in the surrounding community - funded by the state.

Sen. Lucia Mendes (D - NK)

MessageIf we ratify this bill, what languages will be taught in school? Will it be divided among provinces of our different cultures or will it be nation wide, making Lourenne a country with no less than three to five national languages with same legal status.

We agree that minority languages need protection from extinction, but we must be able to communicate with each other across province boarders and cultural divides.

We suggest that French be the national language, with English as second, cumpolsory taught in schools, and leaving provinces decide what other languages should be offered in their respective schools based on culteres in the surrounding community - funded by the state. It is not an option making children study five languages, because all have the same legal standard in the nation.

If we can agree on some of these terms, the OGP would be happy to support the ratification.

MessageWe can see no argument against this bill. We feel that the many languages in danger of extinction should not be forgotten, we should at least give the people that speak the language a chance to continue it.

Random fact: "Game mechanics comes first." For example, if a currently-enforced bill sets out one law, then a player cannot claim the government has set out a contradictory law.
