Bill: Support for Cooperatives and Workers Collectives

Details

Submitted by[?]: Kundrati Revolutionary Movement

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: August 2103

Description[?]:

This bill will remove all taxes on profits of cooperatively and collectively owned businesses that are reinvested in the business. This proposal aims to give tax breaks on investment in worker-run businesses, and therefore promote worker ownership and control of their workplaces.

This program will be run on a trial basis for 5 years, and will be brought up for a vote again at the end of that period.

MessageWe concur. Providing that economic production is both efficient and lasting, then workers should enjoy the full fruits of cooperative capitalism.

MessageA trial period might be a good idea in this case.

Would these businesses only be owned collectively, or also be run that way? Or will the workers delegate the actual day-to-day management to hired professionals?

MessageI believe that that would be the perogative of the worker business itself.

MessageWe are also be in favor of doing this on a trial basis, and will add a clause to that effect in the text.

And yes, the businesses themselves are free to determine their internal structures. What is important as far as this bill is concerned is the ownership structure for the business.

I would certainly hope that taxes are calculated in this manner, for ALL businesses. To tax on turnover is just silly -- IIRC, all taxes are usually calculated like this, unless its a Sole Proprietorship (sp). Is this what you mean however, to remove taxes on the turnover of these type of companies?

MessageMeh, regardless, I think I'll support this one. If it encourages people (or groups) to get into business, then Im happy. Even so, tax is calculated like this accross the board anyway.

Random fact: By default the head of government is the ultimate authority within a national government. In general terms, heads of government are expected to consult with cabinet colleagues (including those from other parties) before making significant decisions but they remain responsible for government action.
