Bill: Income tax proposal of February 2496

Details

Submitted by[?]: SocLib '82

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill proposes to change income taxes. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline.

Voting deadline: February 2497

Description[?]:

SocLib '82 proposes to adjust the government's income tax policy to better address the economic situation of the Most Royal and Serene Kingdom of Hutori.

The current proposal places almost all of the burden on the poor, and a progressive system (we will admit) would only create more debate and in the current climate could not possibly get passed.

We are proposing a flat tax rate of 25% for any person making more than HLR20,000 per year. It's a reasonable rate that protects the poorest of our nation from paying taxes.

Message25% is higher than we'd like but until we can agree on a budget that cuts spending enough, it'll have to remain in the general area of 20-25%..

MessageHow would this proposal bankrupt Hutori? First of all if a budget could be passed that cuts spending then we'd really be in a safe position. Second, this proposal brings about a 20 billion cut in revenue than we currently receive, which is perfectly okay considering we have a 100 billion surplus...

Random quote: "Many forms of Government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed, it has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all those other forms that have been tried from time to time." - Winston Churchill
