Bill: Foreign Aid Moderation Act of 2534
Details
Submitted by[?]: Kirlawan People's Justice Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: October 2534
Description[?]:
Few other nations are as generous -- in our view, overly generous -- as our Kirlawa in the realm of foreign aid. By reducing the foreign aid budget somewhat, more money would be available to return to our own people, and/or to invest in our own nation. We will of course eagerly provide assistance (and to an even greater extent than currently, by using some of the money that we've conserved here) if an actual disaster occurs. |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change Government policy towards giving aid to foreign countries.
Old value:: The government gives high levels of aid to countries in need.
Current: The government supplies "tied" aid to poorer nations in return for trading rights.
Proposed: The government only gives aid for disaster relief in foreign countries.

Message | No, we disagree here. It's not only about helping poor nations but also about our international standing and influence. Besides, development aid stimulates our industry and business relations with poorer nations. From a more practical line of approach, you might even say that these are promising political- and commercial investments. |
Date | 17:22:05, February 17, 2008 CET | From | Kirlawan Popular Front | To | Debating the Foreign Aid Moderation Act of 2534 |
Message | We oppose because we believe that as a rich nation we have a duty to assist all Terrans. The DFMs points are also of note, although we don't believe that aid should be seen as part of a quid pro quo process. |
