Bill: Patient's Rights Act 2109

Details

Submitted by[?]: Left Communist Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: January 2110

Description[?]:

This bill attempts, alongside the Euthanasia Legalization Bill of 2035, and current law, to reinforce the will of the patient in medical care, by requiring the assumation that organ donation is not the will of the patient without explicit permission. The decision must be allowed at any time from adulthood (the donation of children's organs must only be allowed in explicit circumstances) and must be subject to patient confidentiality. Furthermore, donations must be regulated and organs must be in good condition.

Blood is not regarded as an organ and blood donations are not affected in any way by this bill.

MessageWe still believe that an opt-out scheme is better as it increases the number of organs available to those needing them and still allows those against the idea to opt-out of the scheme.

MessageWe agree with the UB. An opt-out scheme is more efficient and in no way reduces the rights of the patients. All this bill has the possibility of doing is reducing the number of available organs as the number of people who are likely to "opt-in" will be less than the current levels of organ donation.
It must be remembered that human nature being what it is there will be only a small proportion who will be likely to do this, only a small proportion who would be against, and the majority would be apathetic and it is the apathetic majority that we need to keep donating in order to maintain supplies.

MessageWe gave it our all. But really we had 4 parties voting yes, the bad news 3 of those held 0 seats. Next session we'll have a shot, I hope anyway.
