Bill: Recognizing the Gathering as an official Religion
Details

Status[?]: passed

Voting deadline: June 2584
Description[?]:
Following the previous election, we feel that it is time for the Gathering to recieve an official position within the government. This is not a request which is far out of line. If you look at the bill "Members of Knesset" you will be reminded of how long the list of recognized religions is. And then if you look at our election results, you will see the large turn-out of support that the people gave us. Treating a religion with that much following as a "dangerous cult" is a persecution to our populace that should not be allowed. Therefore, Our Lord and his Servants ask our fellow Knesset members to recognize the gathering so that all citizens of Beiteynu can live together in harmony. |

Message | A religious movement which becomes a "recognised religion" accrues certain privileges under Beitenyu law, including tax relief and the right to set up denominational schools. The Glorious Gathering is a new political party and a new spiritual movement, and new things often inititally excite fears and suspicions. Whilst my party views some of the attacks on the Glorious Gathering in recent years as hysterical and unfounded, some of my members share some of the concerns, and I can't fail to recognise the concerns which have been expressed both within the Knesset and within broader Beitenyuenese society. As a consequence, whilst defending the liberty of the Gathering to practice as a political and religious organisation, I will abstain from supporting this Bill for the time being. However, if, as time elapses, the Glorious Gathering continues to prove itself a responsible organisation committed to Beitenyu's liberal democracy, we will support this measure and will hope other political parties will do likewise. Message | "We agree with the words of the JMU, however we believe that, given that citizenship rights are currently denied to members of the gathering, we should recognise the Gathering as a religion just now, and reconsider this status later should it take actions against the security of the Beiteynuese State. We believe that denying these rights without just cause is more likely to drive members of the Gathering towards extreme and dangerous action." -Rosh HaMemshala Giora Metzger |
