Bill: Equal Voting Bill

Details

Submitted by[?]: Kirlawan National Party (Leftists)

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: July 2591

Description[?]:

For too long, Kirlawa has considered the votes of people from smaller provinces to be more important than the votes of those from larger regions. The vote of one man from a small province is considered more valuable than the same vote coming from a man who comes from a larger province. This is wholly unacceptable in a democracy. Just because you live in a larger province, does not mean that your vote is somehow worth less than someone from a smaller province. The provinces do not need equal representation, the people do! And we here at the DSP say that every man's vote is worth the same as the man next to him! Every person's vote is just as valuable as the next! So, it's time we stopped making the votes of people from small provinces, more valuable than the vote of a man from a large province! Time, we valued the votes of all Kirlawans equally, time we said, that the vote of every Kirlawan is worth the same, that the vote of every Kirlawan, is valuable! So, vote yes to equality, and vote no to favouritism!

MessageThe DSP feels the vote of every Kirlawan is worth the same as that of the next Kirlawan, we believe that every vote is just as valuable as the next. That is why we vote yes on this bill.

MessageThis is downright bizarre. :o

We agree with (almost all of) the description paragraph.
However, the description paragraph is completely arguing in FAVOR of the current system, and AGAINST the change being proposed in this bill!

"the votes of people from smaller provinces to be more important than the votes of those from larger regions. The vote of one man from a small province is considered more valuable than the same vote coming from a man who comes from a larger province. This is wholly unacceptable in a democracy."

The current system gives equal weight to every person's vote.
The proposed change, on the other hand, would make the "vote of one man from a small province [be] considered more valuable than the same vote coming from a man who comes from a larger province."

"The provinces do not need equal representation, the people do!"

The current system gives equal representation to each person.
The proposed change would give equal representation to each province.

"So, it's time we stopped making the votes of people from small provinces, more valuable than the vote of a man from a large province!"

Rather, let's be sure not to START "making making the votes of people from small provinces, more valuable than the vote of a man from a large province!"

"the vote of every Kirlawan is worth the same, that the vote of every Kirlawan, is valuable!"

We agree. And that describes the current system.

"So, vote yes to equality, and vote no to favouritism!"

The current system is equality (for people). The proposed change would implement heavy favoritism toward voters in small regions.

MessageOOC: It's OK :) No worries.
The wording which the game uses for that issue option is rather vague and confusing.
