Bill: Organ Donations
Details
Submitted by[?]: Gluaiseacht Shaoráil DhaonlathachIt
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: May 2605
Description[?]:
The interest of the individual is more important. Assuming consent is wrong. It should be up to the individual or their families to decide if organs can be taken. Certain religions require that bodies are buried in tact(that is to say the state they were in when they died) on the belief of the afterlife. We have to put the interest/believes of the individual first. The proposed alteration shows more respect for the moral views of the deceased. |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change The government's policy concerning organ donations.
Old value:: Unless otherwise stated, consent is assumed.
Current: Unless otherwise stated, consent is assumed.
Proposed: Organ donations are legal with personal consent.

Message | Oh really, so the individual who needs an organ is less important than the guy who is dying. To preserve individual rights, you would rather have two people die, rather than let one live? |

Message | ".....so the individual who needs an organ is less important than the guy who is dying ?" and "to preserve individual rights, you would rather have two people die, rather than let one live?" That's beside the point. It's about the right of the individual and the violation of that right by the state. |

Message | If he hates society so much, then he can refuse to give an organ. But who really has a problem helping Kirlawa? Only anarchists. They have a opt-out option, and that is good enough. Our hospitals need organs, and this is the way we get them in order to save lives. And the lives of Kirlawans, are more important than the civil liberties of a dead man. |

Message | These people are not hating society but want to determine by themselves what's going to happen with their (dead) bodies. Do the DSP believe inheritances should belong to the state unless otherwise stated ? Same principle. |

Message | If these people are not using the organs, what is wrong with putting them to use? These people can perform a service to society, and we ought to assume the good character of our citizens. If some citizens are angered by helping others in their death, they can opt out. |

Message | It's up to the individual to decide in the first place. Do the DSP believe inheritances should go to the state unless otherwise stated ? Same principle. |

Message | As far as we can tell, both the current law and the proposed change are almost the same, and both are acceptable. Current law: people who want to donate, can; those who don't want to donate, don't have to; and those who state no preference, are assumed to fall into the first group. Proposed change: people who want to donate, can; those who don't want to donate, don't have to; and those who state no preference, are assumed to fall into the second group. Is this interpretation correct? |

Message | Correct. It's a matter of principle. |
