MessageI'm as pro-union as anyone, but I cannot support anything that would be detrimental to our society...putting firefighters, officers, medics, etc. in a position to leave the job isn't responsible legislation. Instead, being they are state paid, we should ensure that these particular professions are taken care of.

Also, a true labor union is democratic. There is no need for a dictator to rule what is good for the collective there.

MessageThe problem is that state employess are always the first to take a wage cut when the economy gets tight. Its an easy way to keep inflation under control. A consevative goverement could slash away and it would be illegal for the wrokers to fight back. Besides, if were paying them well, they won't stirke will they?

As for democractic unions, sure i agree. Posts and positions should be elected, but when it comes to a strike, well lets take a example: A manager makes a racist slur and the workers don't stand for it. Are they required to take a offical secret ballot before they can walkout? The momentum is gone and the action becomes useless. Ballots are good on a large, planned scale but for small or spontaneus action the train union bureaucracy can hinder the protection of workers.
