Bill: Exotic Animals Bill

Details

Submitted by[?]: Kirlawan National Party (Leftists)

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: October 2614

Description[?]:

We here at the DSP believe that the government only has a responsiblity to protect endangered animals. We believe that just because an animal is exotic or rare in these parts, does not mean we should restrict people from owning them as pets. The only thing the government needs to do is regulate the trade of exotic species, to ensure no endangered animals are imported on to the Kirlawan market. However, just because an animal is slightly rare or exotic, does not mean we should prohibit our people from owning them. It is like government telling our citizens that these animals are too good for them, that they should only be restricted to common animals. We do not see any need for government to restrict ownership of exotic animals. To do so is to infringe on civil liberties. So let us say yes to civil liberties, and no to trading endangered animals and an overprotective state.

MessageIf exotic animals are widely kept as pets, eventually some are going to escape and turn feral. And since they're exotic, our local ecosystem is not accustomed to them, so they could become invasive pests to both our people and our native animals.
A little bit of prevention now, can avert big problems later.

(OOC: of the hundreds of examples from the OOC world, the first ones that come to mind are Australia's experiences with rabbits and cane toads.)
