Voting deadline: October 2620

Description[?]:

5th December 2616

"Large protest today in front of National Government Building! Protesters demand more liberty and more new workplaces. Some protesters even demanded resignation of James K. Layton. Police estimates the number of protesters at more than 100 000. There are also many trade unions participating in this protest."

"Following the cut in science budget last month, a large science institute in northern Rutania fired 1000 experts in physics, nuclear technology, biotechnology and molecular biology. Director of Institute, Mr. Peter Macdonald, said: ?By scientific output, we were 6th institute in Rutania, and in some disciplines, we were among first three institutes in whole Artania. But now, we do not have any more money, and companies do not want to finance this fundamental research because it doesn't give them immediate profit."

"'Some of our best universities could be closed next month', says President of Rutanian Association of Universities. Without money from the state budget, we can not continue to operate, or our work is largely under the question. At least 20 000 highly educated people and highly praised experts in their fields could be on the streets next month unless we find new source of funding."

"Human rights organizations have filed a report to international community following the re-introduction of death penalty."

Message"This Government has acted only in the best interests of the people and voters know this. This government believes highly in the development of the sciences, research and development but we do not feel it is the place of the people to fund research into trivial areas which may or may not benefit any person in Rutania. We believe that the private sector will, and HAS, begun to retake control of research in the sciences free of governmental interference and control and that the nation will be far better off for it.

Simply, we find these numbers to be grossly exaggerated and skewed toward the socialist, military unionist and RDF causes and I'm sure that the nation is educated enough to understand it. Further, this government guarantees that no institution of higher education shall close (pending cost benefit analysis) and that we have encouraged the private sector to purchase these areas of higher education so that we can provide our students with a politically unbiased and independent, high quality education equipping them to become the best and most competitive in our workforce."

Message"President of Rutanian Association of Universities demands help from the government, following the adress of Rt.Hon. Layton, Chancellor General of Rutania, and his statement that 'this government guarantees that no institution of higher education shall close'. 'The situation is becoming more and more critical. We cannot wait private institutions to began their investments - people must receive their pay, our scientists and employers must work and must have enough funding for research and teaching on our universities!'."

"Michael Ford, president of Workers' Democratic Forum, workers' organization associated with RDF, was arrested today because of organizing 'secondary strike', by police claims. Police states that their protest was not legal. Carl Friedmann, president of RDF has demanded that police lets Ford go. Chancellor General Layton was also immediately informed about this 'police attack on human rights', by Ford's own statement."

Message"ABout 10 000 owners of small farms have protested today in front of Ministry for Food and Agriculture, following the government plans to discontinue funding and subsidies for farms. "We support any economic reforms, but cows must eat, we must eat, and how can we get the money? We don't have possibilities for large farms, but that's not the reason that government forces us to shut down, and to find some other jobs in the cities.", says Richard Donowan from Delvar. "

MessageThe Government does not regret one bit the reduction in subsidies for all companies and business concerns. It is not the place of the government to subsidise the unproductive practises of small farm owners causing the nation as a whole to have massive deadweight losses in those sectors. This Government wants to encourage small farmers to streamline their practices and no longer rely on the public funds for handouts and undeserved support. We cannot have a fully free and competitive market or trading system if our government continues to subsidise any industry.

Furthermore, the Government will not rollback its prohibition on secondary strikes as our members feel that to cripple other industries is decidedly selfish and workers should only fight for causes that affect themselves. It is a victory for productivity and the economy and thus the nation as a whole. Furthermore, the interference of the RDF into judicial affairs is a blatant attempt of their offices to skew the judicial process in the Commonwealth especially if the police has enough evidence to prosecute. We are sure that if Mr. Ford is innocent that he will be free to go and compensated by the government for wrongful arrest.

Message"Let me first say that RDF is not interfering in judicial matters, we just think that police abused its power via some unofficial government order. Let me remind Mr. Layton on his words: No member of RDF will be arrested because of his beliefs! Mr. Ford demonstrated for freedom of speech and for personal liberties; he is a member of our party. He got arrested. How is that complementary with Mr. Layton words? Furthermore, if there's no political interference in police and judicial affairs, how can Mr. Layton guarantee that no member of party, including myself, won't be arrested? "

Carl Friedmann, president of RDF, called this a "farce", and continued "this is the example par excellence how this state treats those who are brave enough to stand up and protest!"

Another huge demonstration, this one is the biggest. Organizers claims there were around 500 000 protestors in whole Port Nelson, police estimates the number at 400 000. Protest was organized under the motto 'Freedom and Democracy in Rutania', and its organizer was 'Alliance for Democratic Change', union of several NGOs and civil organizations, trade unions, and some political parties, including RDF. Protestors were demanding more civil liberties and resignation of all government members and early elections."
