Bill: Local Determination of Marriage, Morality and Social Decency Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Dranland First Party (CC)
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: November 2629
Description[?]:
The Conservative Populist Party believes that the concerns of local communities and families are falling on deaf ears in many, if not all areas of policy making. Currently, the federal government holds unifying policies in the areas of marriage, sexual and public decency, and morality - either this, or there is no government policy regarding these issues at all. This is simply unacceptable. It is not good enough for the people of Dranland, and so it is not good enough for the CPP. If the people of Dranland's local communities believe, on the grounds of their culture, their customs, their values, or their traditions - the natural social feelings and prejudices born from their heritage, which define who they are as people - that the institution of marriage should be preserved and protected, or that homosexuality is socially destructive and against the interests of the family unit, then their representative local governments should have the capacity to determine laws regarding these matters on their behalf, without interference from an all-powerful federal government. What place is it of the federal government to disregard the particularities of local communities, and to engage in politically correct social engineering at their expense, all to protect various 'minorities'? Let local governments decide on these diverse and sensitive issues, as they provide more adequately for the concerns of the hard-working and decent people they represent; the local families and communities who are most affected by such policies, and who are constantly neglected by the over-bearing managerial state. Local governments form policy that is more relevant and responsive to the needs of local communities - their decision-making capacity should not be undermined. True democracy occurs at a local level. Let the people decide what is best for them - not the federal government. |

Random fact: "Game mechanics comes first." For example, if a currently-enforced bill sets out one law, then a player cannot claim the government has set out a contradictory law. |
