Bill: Protection of Traditional Marriage Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Dranland First Party (CC)
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: January 2671
Description[?]:
The One Nation Party believes that marriage, between a man and a woman, is the foundation of the family in Dranland's culture, which is the cornerstone of our society. As such, we should not allow this sacred bond between man and wife, and the family unit which it creates, to be undermined by allowing foreign marriages that are not in harmony with our national conception of marriage. People of other nationalities are welcome in Dranland, but citizenship comes with the responsibility of respecting and adopting our culture and our ways of life. (As a side-note, we intend to form policy in future that would make polygamy illegal, and that would recognize marriage between a man and woman as the only legal marital bond. We cannot propose this policy at the present time, due to the Dranland Civil Rights Amendment, which we hope soon to abolish) |

Message | This makes no difference to us, as we do not think the government should have anything to do with marriage. |

Message | "Why is polygamist tradition disenfranchised when it has a history as long as, and in some cases, predating (OT) monogamy?" Polygamy is a tradition adopted by various cultures throughout the world, including Islam, among others. It is not, however, in any way a part of the unique national history of our own country, which has shaped and defined our society and its institutions. It may be the preferred marital arrangement for other nations, and we have no qualm with this - it is perfectly acceptable to us that other countries practice their own customs, inherited by their own individual history and cultural heritage, and we would not wish monogamy to be imposed on them, just as polygamy should not be imposed on us. It is not whether polygamy predates monogamy as a tradition that concerns us, per se - rather, it is its significance - or lack thereof - and place in our society. As monogamous marriage has, for many decades and centuries, survived the tests of time and proven the most suitable form of marital association for our people and our culture, it should be promoted as the only acceptable form of marriage in Dranland, and recognized by the government as such. Allowing polygamy simply undermines our traditional institutions and values, and our culture, all of which we consider to be of enormous importance to our country and its civilized society. |

Random fact: Moderation will not accept Cultural Protocol updates which introduce, on a significant scale, cultures which are likely to be insufficiently accessible to players. In particular, for all significant cultures in Particracy, it should be easy for players to access and use online resources to assist with language translation and the generation of character names. Moderation reserves the right to amend Cultural Protocols which are deemed to have introduced significant cultures that are not sufficiently accessible and which are not being actively role-played with. |
