Message | Interesting. I see that the calc has changed for the FPTP elections - did my spreadsheet get lost? |

Message | Welcome back to Kirlawa, KPF! I'm afraid I forgot all about a spreadsheet -- I've been doing these by hand. :) LPP's formula is pretty good, except that it has yielded 29 single-party majorities out of the 30 most recent tries, in the last five elections (six per election; one for Senate and one for each province). So, I agree that a different formula would be welcome. I just finished the 2691 results article (except for governor names) this morning. If you would like to do the upcoming ones, you're welcome to; or if you would prefer for me to continue to do them but with your formula, I'd be glad to. |

Message | The old formula, which was more complicated, also is more likely to result in single-party majorities - that is kind of the point, as the idea is to simulate FPTP, which is biased towards the larger parties and tends to affect the medium sized parties most negatively. Of course, how much it matters does depend on the extent to which the Senate and Regions are used in RP - which is not very often from my recollection. |
