Bill: Citizens' Rights Act (On Mayors) (RSA)
Details
Submitted by[?]: Imperial Democratic Coalition
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: January 2680
Description[?]:
Given our previous approach didn't work, we'll try another. The Senate has a duty to protect the interests of Selucia's citizenry as a whole, and this includes ensuring equal rights in all the provinces. Allowing for provincial/local decisions on mayoral appointments is inconsistent with this. This option will continue to ensure the democratic right of Selucians to determine their own leadership. However, under this variation, the democratically-chosen Imperator, guarantor of citizens' rights, shall appoint the magistrates in each locality. Our arguments for central government control are much the same as in the previous bill (in the debate section - http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=230701). Our principle aim is to ensure the citizens of all municipalities are guaranteed a uniform governmental system. We had thought the other parties would support council-election - we were wrong, but perhaps this option may be supported. |

Message | This leads to cronyism and the possibility of terrible mayors, who woudl abuse their powers, or possibly put local seats up for sale. We are content with the current law and will vote against all attempts to change it. |
Date | 20:31:18, December 11, 2008 CET | From | Minarchist Party | To | Debating the Citizens' Rights Act (On Mayors) (RSA) |
Message | We agree with FRP and would add that we do not want a uniform government system, but one chosen by each region. It may result in a uniform system, but uniformity shouldn't be the goal. |
Date | 22:19:49, December 11, 2008 CET | From | Selucian Party of Social Democrats | To | Debating the Citizens' Rights Act (On Mayors) (RSA) |

Random fact: RP laws follow the same passing rules as in-game variable laws. Laws that are not of a constitutional nature require a simple majority "Yes" vote from active parties currently holding seats. Laws that are of a constitutional nature require a 2/3 majority "Yes" vote from active parties currently holding seats. RP laws may be abolished a simple majority vote this applies to ANY RP law. |
