Bill: The tariff bill of 2703

Details

Submitted by[?]: National Equality Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: May 2705

Description[?]:

Due to the recent ratification of the AFTO treaty, the NEP proposes that we adopt a policy of reciprocal tariffs, as this would still fall into the rules of the AFTO. This would not only protect Rutanian businesses, but also our fellow AFTO members, as imports from out the AFTO would have tariffs on them, making AFTO products cheaper.

MessageThe Orange Party is historically pro-free trade, but we do see a need to protect our businesses, and to level the playing field. It just seems fair to us that we utilize this "mirror trade." Other nations tax our goods, so we should tax theirs, and with this system there will still be free trade with nations not upholding tariffs. This proposal will not only bring in extra government revenue, but will also prevent low-quality foreign goods from flooding our markets and, in turn, hurting our economy. The Orange Party will, therefore, support this proposal.
