Message | The DLU feel the current policy provide an appropriate balance between civil liberty and discipline. Let us not forget prison itself is the punishment and what the JCP are proposing borders on slavery in our humble opinion. |

Message | Slavery is done to perfectly free and innocent people, criminals should have to pay for the food and lodgings that they are accorded while in prison. |

Message | With respect to the JCP we can’t agree. This line of thinking takes our civilised society back to the middle ages, when prisoners were charged for the privilege of being in prison. The removal of freedom is the punishment; prisoners do not need to be punishment even further when in prison. |
Date | 01:05:44, October 20, 2005 CET | From | Jakanian Liberal Socialists | To | Debating the Law and Justice Act of 2127 |
Message | We concur with the DLU. You can't dehumanise people like this. Criminals are still humans and they still possess basic rights, and they are still citizens of United Jakania. No one has any right to use them as slaves. If economics is to be the only justification for such a violation of basic human rights and dignity then this parliament needs to begin rethinking its priorities before we begin trying to 'justify' taking the basic rights of the rest of our citizens. |
Date | 12:18:59, October 20, 2005 CET | From | Democratic Labour Union | To | Debating the Law and Justice Act of 2127 |
Message | The DLU is more than surprised considering its libertarian values on matters the JLP is voting in favour of this bill. |
