Description[?]:
The Jakanian Liberal Socialist Party (The JLSP) was established in 2117 as the first party to be registered in newly democratic United Jakania. Today, the party's platform draws heavily on its historical ideals. For the past many years, the JLSP has primarily focussed on Jakanian patriotism in the face of foreign oppression, and this has come to be much more central to the party's platform than in the past. The JLSP triumphs a form of moderate patriotism. Its members believe the history, and traditional customs of the Jakanian people are very important to the nation, but this is primarily ceremonial; and never comes at the expense of the rights of citizens or of foreigners. Pride in the nation is a great thing, but should never be without criticisms of its past mistakes. A love for your country should revolve around a love for its people and their accomplishments, and not only its government or leaders. This is the patriotism that the JLSP encourages. This patriotism should never be construed as a sense of superiority over other peoples of the world. All people, no matter their place of birth, should be offered the opportunity to contribute to Jakanian society. Socially, the JLSP is very permissive. It follows the belief that people should be free to live as they choose - so long as it is not at the expense of others. This philosophy underpins many of the JLSP's beliefs, and has become a central tenet to the policies the party follows. The party believes moral and religious beliefs are something to be concluded personally, and never legislated or forced upon its people. People should decide for themselves what is right and wrong, which customs they follow, and live accordingly, while understanding that the right they are given to live as they please is allowed only be the respect of their neighbours, a respect they should pay back in kind. Media, language and expression should never be censored at all, (except where the central tenet is violated, such as in the publishing of false information) even where we find the subject matter reprehensable, or unsuitable ; citizens should decide for themselves what they wish to see and hear, what they wish to avoid, and what they wish their children to see. The JLSP believes the government should serve its people; all of its people. Police should not be lethally armed; prisoners and criminals should be afforded the same certain fundamental rights as any other citizen, and their speedy reintegration into society as functional individuals should be a priority. The resources and wealth of Jakania belong to all of its people. All of the nation's people are connected, and everyone is interdependant on each other playing a role in our economy. We believe basic access to food, water, electricity, healthcare and education should be guarenteed to all citizens regardless of their circumstances. We believe health and education should be completely free at point of contact with the people; our people have a right to see a doctor concerned soley with their health and wellbeing, rather than their payment. Science and Education are very important to the JLSP. A well educated populice benefits us all, and all have a right to learn and study in their chosen fields. Scientific advancement helps improve the human condition, and strong government support of science and research enables our nation's advancement, even where market forces would not neccesarily allow. The environment and natural areas and landmarks of Jakania belong to its people collectively. Unneccesarily polluting the environment violates the party's central tenet, and harms all of us. The JLSP is in favour of laws protecting the environment, and of encouraging enterprise of our citizen's favourable to the environment. Jakania should present itself as a strong, but neutral player on the world stage, and champion the rights of people across the globe. Its military should be strong, but limited to defence of the nation. Military strength should be accepted as a neccesity, but never glorified. The nation should never target a civilian populice in war time, or use or store nuclear, biological, or chemical weapons. |

Random fact: Players have a responsibility to differentiate between OOC (out-of-character) and IC (in-character) behaviour, and to make clear when they are communicating in OOC or IC terms. Since Particracy is a role-playing game, IC excesses are generally fine, but OOC attacks are not. However, players must not presume this convention permits them to harass a player with IC remarks that have a clear OOC context. |
