MessagePlacing "God" so bluntly within our national anthem implies that all of the nation's citizens believe in God, and in that particular way. No one can account of this for all of our current and future citizens. People are allowed thier freedom of religion (which includes its lack of; similar to how the color white is also defined as an absence of color?...)

The phrase "Our light will show the way" can be interpreted, by some, that it is God's will/light; as He (bear with my opinion for the sake of the example) gives us the benefit of light so that we may learn ourselves.

I am opposed to the proposal.

Random fact: Party candidates for head of state elections are not visible to the public. This means that you cannot see who will run and who will not, which adds another strategic element to the elections.
