Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change The lyrics of the national anthem.
Old value:: None
Current:
Luthorian (English): Into the world came a new feeling, through the world goes a powerful call; by means of wings of a gentle wind now let it fly from place to place. Not to a bloodthirsty sword does it draw the human family: to the eternally fighting world it promises sacred harmony. Under the sacred sign of the hope the peaceful fighters gather, and this affair quickly grows by the labours of those who hope. Walls of millennia stand firmly between the divided people; but the stubborn barriers will jump apart, knocked apart by the sacred love. |
Proposed:
For all time the people have glorified their Zardugal, United in heart, spirit and vigour as one. Resolutely moving forwards, Respecting and increasing the dignity of everyone, from man, woman, and child And proclaiming the right to be their own masters. People of all origins are equal And we shall not allow tyrants and traitors to harm them. The entire people will safeguard the independence And the freedom of Zardugal. They are resolved to struggle for victory In order to lead the nation to prosperity. |

Message | Since my input was requested, here it is. I played with what was there and waxed poetic a bit. "For all time the people have glorified their Zardugal, United in heart, spirit and vigour as one. Resolutely, we move foward, Pressing on, no opposition may stand, Never shall tyranny rule us, No traitor shall stand impune. We all stand to safeguard our independence Our Freedom and our way of life. O Zardugal we stand for you, In right or wrong, our nation forever." |

Message | My primary opposition lie in the following lines: "Respecting and increasing the dignity of everyone, from man, woman, and child" This is all well and good to say, and to wish for, but war, sometimes the needed course of action, is a demeaning, primal sort of thing, whose experience changes one forever. Dignity is a good thing, but it is a personal thing, and though a nation can exude it from every pore, it speaks little of the nation itself. An anthem is meant to inspire nationalism when it is played and sung, and this line simply doesn't do that. "People of all origins are equal" Like with the last line, this simply does not belong in an anthem. The very idea of nationalism (signed off and belittled as patriotism in America) places your nation above others, not because it's better, per se, but because you live there, and love it. As such, this line waters down the nationalistic feeling a citizen should gain from the playing or recitation of their national anthem, and speaks nothing to raise their spirits, because it places us on par with nations that are cesspools. "They are resolved to struggle for victory In order to lead the nation to prosperity." Now these lines had the right idea, but needed more punch. They seemed weak. A resolution is nothing more than words said, and regardless of the intent, they are just words. Prosperity is good, mind you, but victory doesn't nessicarily lead to it. This is a song about the nation itself, and though it can imply or communicate ideas on a baser level, to come right out and say things that not everyone can agree with is not a song that can be our anthem. |

Random fact: In order for a Cabinet bill to pass, more than half of the legislature must vote for it and all of the parties included in the proposed Cabinet must support it. If your nation has a Head of State who is also the Head of Government, then the party controlling this character must also vote for the bill, since the Head of Government is also a member of the Cabinet. If any of these requirements are not met, the bill will not pass. |
