Bill: Food Regulation Bill

Details

Submitted by[?]: Free Market Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: June 2133

Description[?]:

Government regulation in the food sector considerably rises food prices, which is ultimatly a disadvantage for the poor people. They are less of, when they are not able to buy cheap food. The enforcement of Food Safety also costs the tax payer lots of money for the personal who is checking upon businesses. However it is not possible for them to prevent some quite disguisting products.

I therfore suggest that the government only makes suggestions on food safety and any business can accept or decline the suggestions. Private Food Safety Companies will soon be formed after this bill passed the parliament and they can help companies out, that want to show that they're producing quality food. (Examples for private Quality Check in real world are for example the star system for hotels or restaurants, which is from a private organisation or the Car Security Tests from certain car magazines that are considerably higher, than European Car Security Standards).

We hate to trust our people the consumers more. They can choose what is right or wrong for them. If they know something is wrong with a product, the word will spread out and the company is most likely to go bankrupt. We see that everyday, its the self-regulation of the market. The government is only enforcing higher prices, but neither higher food safety nor better quality.

The same argumentation has to put upon the labeling and selling of food products, which should be left to businesses also.

How can they if no one will regulate it

This will lower food standards and damage the health of our nation, and I hope that every sensible, mature, intelligent and sane member of this parliament will vote against it

MessageNo-one will regulate it? Look at the paragraph above.

This will lower prices while still giving regulation (and driving the nasty companies out of business unless they clean up their act).

Message@DLP: I clearly said, that there is the possibility for private companies to step in for some producers and create own quality brands. Consumers can decide on their own, if they trust a vendor or not. Nothing else is being done in everyday life.

MessageThe companies will not regulate themselves, private enterprise is driven by profit and therefore it is in ther best interest to mislead the public and to make sure there protect gets sold. The Private bodies are also a lot less tranparent then the public body

It is much better being regulated by an indepedent public body that is transparent to the public, and therefore allows the public to make a better choice for themselve and a more well informed choice for themselves.

MessageIt's not a matter of not trusting consumers (or you know, people) it's a matter of not trusting companies.
