Message | Mr Speaker, what is the point of devolving powers if the financial burden still falls on the central state? |

Message | That the people may freely choose for themselves on a local level, a concept the monarchists and aristocrats of the CLP seem to have yet to comprehend, preferring to legislate morality in the guise of fiscal policy. |

Message | Aristocrats, Mr Speaker? Hardly. This party seeks to have the people govern themselves with as little state intrusion as possible. Furthermore, we are the party that opened up the franchise to as many people as possible, with rights for immigrants, a far cry from the situation under the NSP, who the republicans are seeking to ally themselves with. We asked a simple question, Mr Speaker. What is the point of devolution if the cost still falls on the central state. If we are going to devolve, it should be done properly, with tax-raising powers for local government. How can people make decisions for their own local area without having a true understanding of the costs? |

Message | what about the kids if the local government lets them drink crime rate will go up...... |

[ooc: as you know, the game doesn't actually allow us to model that, as its shortcomings are friggin' legion. What you describe, with local tax-raising, is what this is supposed to vaguely simulate, with local alcohol licensing paying for whatever degree of discount the Councils should agree to.] |

Message | [OOC: Quite, but, also in Hutori alone, we cannot do any of the financial stuff, due to their being a bug of some sort in the budgetary system! But, I have always assumed that if something is being devolved, then the burden would fall on the local government. By explicitly stating that it shall be funded by the government, it states otherwise. That is the point I was trying to make!] |
