Bill: Verdana Summit of 2895

Details

Submitted by[?]: Urban Party of Kirlawa

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: November 2899

Description[?]:

I am calling on all parties to attend the Verdana Summit to discuss the various issues that are affecting our nation. As we all know, Kirlawa in just 5 years will enter a new century that will bring hope, prosperity and peace to a nation that has provided the same for its people since 2034. However, our nation isn't perfect and could do better in several areas.

Here are my areas of concern:

1. Population Growth/Sprawl
2. Aging national power grid
3. Limited forms of energy generation
4. Possibility of a recession
5. Loss of farms

I know this summit will adress most if not all of these issues and for success at solving these issues, we must ensure an environment that encourages bipartisanship. More importantly though, I see this meeting as a way to unite not just the parties, but all of Kirlawa also. If we succede as a government, then the nation will succede on the world stage. I also would like to here input from my cabinet, Prime Minister O'Donnell and anybody else who wishes to express their concerns and ideas.

MessageKirlawa is a mature and stable liberal democracy. It has over a number of years tended in its legislation towards a 'liberal' mean, such that I would suggest that most of us (both citizens and political parties) are happy with most of the laws that are currently on the books. Although I would suggest that there are some issues upon which there is genuine disagreement, the vast majority of the legislative framework is broadly acceptable to all, and will remain so unless and untilwe are joined by a hard right wing, or possibley strongly single issue party.

Despite impressions that may have been formed the KYFP is neither of those things.

Our legislative agenda over the coming years will however be towards devolution from the central government towards local government, and also conitnuing to support policies that actively promote Kirlawa and Kirlawan's. I am aware that some parties are staunchly opposed to protectionism, but we do think there are some very good reasons for managing international trade, whther it is quality control, environmental factors, are maintianing industry diversity. It is not insular, to look first to ourselves.

Indeed we must all strive to think globally and act locally, on a range of issues. The KYFP believes that some appropriate devolueiont and genuine consideration of appropriate trade management measures is a means to promote this, and will actively promote solutions to points, 2,3 and 5 of the presidents agenda.

MessageI would like to see some type of plan that'll ensure Kirlawa uses smart growth to curb urban sprawl and protect parts of the country from becoming overpopulated. With that in mind, I don't believe that population control should be mentioned as a solution to deal with our increasing population.

MessageIf we do see indications of a future...R-word...we can introduce publics work projects to help rebuild the power grid and invest in construction projects for alternative energy sources (wind farms, solar panels, possible nuclear power plants, hydroelectric plants). This will kill three birds with one stone (job creation, energy production, restoration of public infrastructure). What do other parties think? And do we have information on where our economy is headed? And I believe our Anti-Trust Farm Act did help family farms, but we may need to do more to keep a federal safety net in place for farms, since food production is a national necessity.

Message(OOC: sorry for the recent lack of activity; I've been pretty busy this week.)

KPJP thank the UPK for conducting this summit, and the Barletonian Party and KYFP for participating.

We agree.

And we agree with this as well.

KPJP are strongly opposed to nuclear power. For every moment of electricity, it gives thousands of years of radioactive waste. Much better alternatives exist, including but not limited to the following.
Solar power is a good idea, and can certainly be used to an extent; but we caution that it is not optimally suited to Kirlawa, considering our nation's northern latitude (OOC: think New England and New York).
We completely and enthusiastically support wind and hydroelectric, which are both clean and available. In addition, we suggest looking into tidal power (another form of hydroelectric), considering our long coastline on the Lievenian Sea.

MessageWe also would support spending some money on alternative energy tax credits for businesses, considering this truly would be an invest in the nation's future as a whole.
