Healthcare patients of either government or private insurance shall have the following rights enforced: 1. Patients shall have the right to have their medical decisions made by a doctor; 2. Patients shall have the right to enroll in the public insurance option as an alternative to private insurance. 3. Patients shall have the right to go to the closest emergency room; 4. Patients shall have the right to designate a pediatrician as a primary care doctor for their children; 5. Patients shall have the right to obtain the prescription drugs their doctor prescribes; 6. Patients shall have the right to access a fair and independent appeals process if care is denied; 7. Patients shall have the right to hold their health plan accountable for harm done through legal action; 8. Patients shall have the right to be treated confidentially, with access to their records limited to those involved in their care or designated by the patient; 9. Patients shall have the right to receive full disclosure of their insurance plan in plain language; 10. The rights of patients to obtain medical coverage shall not be denied or abridged by private insurers or the public insurance option on account of pre-existing conditions, length of life, or illness. |
