Bill: National Election Law of 2912

Details

Submitted by[?]: Urban Party of Kirlawa

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: August 2913

Description[?]:

During the Last election, our Prime Minister ran for president thus putting herself in place to control both the HoS and HoG at the same time. This is unacceptable as no person should be able to hold the HoS and HoG position at the same time unless permitted to by the law. Thus, we propose the following in order to prevent such an event from happening.

The National Election Law of 2912 if enacted, will do the following:

1. No sitting Prime Minister shall be allowed to run for President
2. If a sitting PM is elected, they will be impeached immediately
3. This law must be passed with 2/3 majority
4. The law will become void if the structure of the Executive Branch changes or the law is repealed with 2/3 majority

MessageWe would prefer legislation that said no President could be Prime Minister, but we see no reason as to why the Prime Minister cannot run for the highest office.

Random fact: Cabinet ministers who disagree seriously with the head of government would usually be expected to resign. Parties within the cabinet may attempt to manoeuvre to replace the head of government though, for example by proposing a new cabinet bill or voting for an early election.
