Bill: Official Religion Act of 2138
Details
Submitted by[?]: Parti Monarchiste Catholique
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: May 2141
Description[?]:
Honourable Colleagues, Since its founding, the people of the Kingdom of Rildanor have been a devoutly Catholic people. For a time, our great nation was even ruled by a theocratic form of government. Our great flag still carries the Cross of Chirst. It is time that the government recognize the beloved religion of the people. Colleagues, having an official religion does not mean an end to religious freedom or that all must belong to a state Church. For our model for establishing an offical religion, we look to the United Kingdom. While that respected nation has an official religion, it does not require all of its citizens to be a member of that religion, nor does it infringe upon the freedom of religion of non-Christian citizens that reside within its borders. In this way it is able to preserve and recognize its culture and history without doing violence to the rights of its minority peoples. Be it so enacted: 1) That the official religion of the Kingdom of Rildanor be Catholicism. 2) That no citizen, resident, or foreign visitor to the Kingdom of Rildanor be forced or required to join the Catholic Church. 3) That non-Catholic citizens, reisdents, and foreign vistors to the Kingdom of Rildanor retain their right to practice whatever religion they wish, or to practice none at all. |

Message | The only reason the flag still has the cross is because I haven't been bothered to try and make a new one. |

Message | Yea right! Come on BP, you don't have a snowball chance in hell to take the cross of the flag and you know it. We support this fine bill but we prefer that Catholicism be replaced with Christianity, but it's only a suggestion. |

Message | Colleagues, I. A new flag would be an option but not something I desire to enforce upon the legislature, we do not have the 'most beautiful' flag of Terra however it does have a certain history behind it. II. There can be a new flag aside a Catholic/Christian installed national religion. III. I have been working on some flags - http://users.skynet.be/fa032160/rildanor.htm - as you can see, the different flags contain the 'Rildanor Royal Lion' which refers to our Monarchy. Let me know what you think about it. |

Message | If you make a side of the third one red then it would be perfect. |

Message | Well the reason I support the flag is because it is mostly the flag of my real life country and since 5-6 parties were of the same ethnicity as me that didn't bother anyone. But if the parties of this country want to change the flag then we will not vote against it. Also regarding the monarchy, the BP said that we have no king, can someone explain this? As far as the new flags are concerned, we are a narrow minded party and would like to see a cross on the future flag of Rildanor. |

Message | BTW we always thought the Christianity, Islam are religions and that Catholicism/Ortodoxism are parts of Christianity, we call them cults, but I doubt that is the right translation in English. |

Message | I think 'sects' is the word your looking for there but I'm probably wrong. |

Message | OOC: Cult is technically correct, because a cult is just a group with common beliefs. However, that word has a negative connotation (at least in the USA) because it is usually associated with wacko religious sects and not with mainstream religions. IC: As regards the flag, we actually like the royal lion flags. Is there any way to incorporate even a small cross on the flags? |

Message | Colleagues of the CMP, "Is there any way to incorporate even a small cross on the flags?" I actually tried to do that but its not all that simple :-) |

Message | I'm against declaring the country as Catholic/Christian/any relgion at all. It draws attention to us, and can put us at odds with some countries just because of our religion. |

Message | It can put us at odds with some countries because we have a democracy, what will we do ? Now really, we govern for the people of Rildanor not for anyone else. |

Random fact: Particracy allows you to establish an unelected head of state like a monarch or a president-for-life, but doing this is a bit of a process. First elect a candidate with the name "." to the Head of State position. Then change your law on the "Structure of the executive branch" to "The head of state is hereditary and symbolic; the head of government chairs the cabinet" and change the "formal title of the head of state" to how you want the new head of state's title and name to appear (eg. King Percy XVI). |
