Bill: Subsidiarity Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Post-Revolutionary Pragmatic Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: July 3003

Description[?]:

The state meddles in every aspect of our lives. Even the most trifling aspects of daily existence are regulated, and even the most mundane and innocent decisions are not made in our homes, by us, but in Azban, by a haughty elite who think they know what's best for us. By calling themselves the 'national' government, this cabal considers itself authorized to impose a minority agenda that the majority has no use for.

The Post-Revolutionary Party does not deny that state interference is often necessary, or even desirable, to safeguard our citizens' quality of life. However, the full force of the state should only be brought to bear on affairs that are fundamental to the rights of each and every individual. Where this is not the case, local preferences may legitimately vary. It is time to recognize that local affairs belong in local hands.

Random fact: Any RP law granting extraordinary "emergency powers" or dictator-like powers to a government must be passed by at least a 2/3rds majority, but (like all RP laws) may always be overturned by a simple majority vote of the legislature.
