Message*from the floor of the Senate*

The delivery of medicine for any healthful purpose by a physician is no business of the state. The SDPS official policy regarding medical cannabis is that if a physician believes his or her patient stands to receive medical benefits from consuming cannabis, then the physician should be allowed to prescribe said cannabis to the patient for medical reasons.

The patient-doctor relationship is a sacred one, as sacred as one's very health, and should be respected.

I yield back.

MessageThis is something quite easily exploited, a vice that threatens the future and viability of our children and families to grow successfully. While perhaps a good intention, it is ultimately a venue that leads to other more serious drugs and substances and acts as the gateway to malicious entities such as gang life.

The SDPS should realize that a doctor and patient wave their rights when the purpose of their relationship is tied together solely by moral decay and societal degradation.

MessageWe maintain that the only time that cannabis is linked to social degradation is when someone is forced to seek cannabis in the realms of the shady criminal underground. If obtained legally, it takes the money away from the criminal enterprises and puts it into the hands of entrepreneurs. The history of cannabis as a gateway drug exists because people who went to underground drug dealers were offered more dangerous drugs as well. Someone in a cannabis pharmacy isn't going to be offered heroin, crack or other drugs there, but on the street, they very well might be.

Message"Mr. Premier,

While the CPS believes in the government legislation of strong moral fiber, we cannot in good conscience allow patients in pain to be denied the relief which they need. In its medicinal use, cannabis is and should remain as legal as penicillin, or any other drug.

I yield."
