Bill: Forward on Vehicle Emissions
Details
Submitted by[?]: Konservative Partei
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: November 3332
Description[?]:
We agree with the Demokratisch-Sozialistische Partei that it is sensible to move our automotive industry to a clean energy future. However, we believe that it would be misguided to introduce an executive decree ordering that within a three-year timeframe, manufacturers are forced to conform to new standards. As we explained during debate of the DSP's bill, such a narrow timeframe leads to bad outcomes for both manufacturers and consumers, especially those consumers with the lowest ability to pay. (1) Forcing low-income households to buy a new car within such a quick period will be a dreadful outcome for them. (2) Even worse, producers would not have time to develop the low-cost, high-efficiency technology needed to make environmentally friendly cars available to consumers at reasonable prices. We propose a compromise policy that will shift our economy to a clean future, without taking a sledgehammer to our economy, to hard-working manufacturing employees, or to the poorest people in our society. - Michael Köpke, environment spokesperson for the Konservative Partei. |

Message | Again, the bill we introduced would not have forced low-income households to purchase new vehicles. |
Date | 19:00:52, July 10, 2012 CET | From | Grüne Partei | To | Debating the Forward on Vehicle Emissions |
Message | If our esteemed colleagues at the Konservative Partei add an electric vehicle mandate back to the bill the Demokratisch-Sozialistischen Partei will support it. A decade should be enough time for the auto makers to switch to electric. Again, this only applies to the production of new vehicles. |
