Bill: Withdrawal from Preservation of Monarchist Culture
Details
Submitted by[?]: De venstregrønne
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This bill proposes the withdrawal from a treaty. It will require half of the legislature to vote in favor[?]. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: March 3457
Description[?]:
"Preservation of Monarchist Culture", De venstregrønne feels, is a treaty that undermines our democracy by preventing parliament from taking any vote that directly concerns Kazulia's constitutional status. It even forces us to maintain undemocratic titles of nobility which undermine the egalitarian principles upon which Kazulia should be based. Here we propose only withdrawal from the treaty on democratic grounds and not the abolition of the monarchy itself (which would require a two-thirds majority). |

Article 1

Message | We believe that our participation with the Treaty, preserves an essential part of Kazulian culture. What this treaty does is allows a longer debate for the abolition of the monarchy. Such a move should not be done in a single electoral term, as the constitutional changes will take a long time to prepare and implement. We therefore propose that we continue membership until such a time that a party proposes the end of the monarchy and sets out a proper timetable for change. |

Message | In that case then Senterpartiet does indeed propose the abolition of the monarchy and its replacement with a Kazulian republic by the end of the next parliamentary term. However first we need to withdraw from the '"Preservation of Monarchist Culture" treaty, preferably by the end of this term. We hope other parties will be willing to discuss this proposed plan and join the debate as to what kind of country and what kind of political system we want in future. |

Message | We also feel that the monarcy is an important cornerstone of Kazulian culture. Though democratic and republican style of government is a given for our modern country, a constitutional monarchy has a king or queen in name only who does not and cannot officially influence legislation. Therefore, their status is irrelevant to the actual political freedom of our nation. The monarchy also serves to unite the people of Kazulia and each king or queen provides a long-lasting face to represent our country relative to the short terms of High Chancellors. The Indigoblå Liga will continue to support the monarchy as long as the Kazulian people are happy with the institution. This treaty merely formalizes the monarchy's integral position in Kazulia and withdrawal is unnecessary. |

Message | We are likely to again put this forward to a vote and appeal for all parties to support it on democratic grounds regardless of what they feel about the monarchy. |

Message | We feel similarly to Indigobla Liga and KRP. |
