MessageMr. Speaker,

The Conservative Party believes that the current gun laws in our nation do not need any changing. We are strongly against this piece of legislation proposed by the Democratic Union which heavily restricts the key right to gun ownership that our nation's citizens currently enjoy. Banning the right of concealed carry, and banning guns from being carried in public locations are both radical ideas that are blatant assaults on our people's individual right to carry a gun for their personal safety. This bill would need some big changes before the Conservative Party would even be willing to negotiate on it.

I Yield.

MessageMr. Speaker,

Primarily, let us place a defense on our articles and hear responses from the Congress. We are willing to negotiate and change this legislation to reach political compromise and the necessary votes to pass it.

The first Article is the withdrawal of the National Right to Bear Arms Treaty. We in the Democratic Union believe that our nation and our Congress deserve the right to self-determination and self-regulation, with no need of an international treaty to lock in domestic policies. It is on this basis, and on the grounds of healthy and effective political debate and change, that we put forward the withdrawal of Gaduridos from this Treaty.

The second Article is to eliminate the right to carry concealed weapons. Let us place a scenario before our fellow members of Congress. Upon the highway, one vehicle rearends the other. Two men exit the vehicles and begin a heated conversation. Should one man have had a rough day, or a hard time at home, or be under stress, the psychological ability to restrict extreme action might be deterred. If he is carrying a concealed violent weapon, there is immediate and real danger to not only that individual but all individuals around him who are *denied their right to know if there is danger around them!*

In the third article we restrict weapons available to the public to classic rifles. The other types of weapons named are only used to target and harm *humans*. That is something nobody in Gaduridos wants, and something we are sure nobody in this Congress wants on our streets. We understand farmers and others in such professions need to have the ability of self-preservation of livestock and equipment, and have allowed the continued use of classic rifles to reflect that.

As a citizen of Gaduridos, I want to be safe in the streets. I want to trust my fellow citizens. Having weapons that are only used for killing or harming others does not create a safer Gaduridos. Having my fellow citizen be able to carry a concealed weapon means I don't know who is armed and who is not. I have no trust. Let us not be a nation divided, but one united against violence.

I Yield.

MessageMr Speaker

The FMG agrees that treaties do restrict self-determinance of a people.

Your 2nd article is where we really have a problem if this bill. If a citizen is going to commit a crime, carrying concealed will be the least of peoples worries. There are already law on the books against murder, if someone is going to do it they will this law will not stop them. What it will stop is law-abiding citizens who would otherwise be carrying. It is the position of the Free Movement that this law will only embolden criminals and will be generally unenforceable unless another crime is committed.

We also don't believe that the 3rd article is necessary either. It will just create an underground blackmarket for the weapons and those who wish to get their hands on it will, under current laws we can keep an eye on who has what and deal with those who are criminals.

MessageMr. Speaker,

Sorry that I'm late in expressing my opinions, but I must give an explanation to why the Conservative Party will be voting "no" on this bill. Although we generally agree with the idea that treaties restrict self-determinance of a people, we are willing to make an exception to this policy when it comes to "Affirming the Right to Bear Arms". This treaty simply mandates that nations must allow their citizens to possess firearms in some capacity. It still allows for nations to put further regulations on this right, but it prevents them from banning guns completely. We see the right to basic gun ownership as a human right that should be supported by an international agreement, thus we will not be voting in favor of this treaty withdrawal.
