Herr Präsident, With the rising crime rates, including the rising prevalence of gun crime, in our inner cities, we cannot go on pretending that it was a good idea to make it any easier to obtain a gun. We believe that it should weigh heavier that guns are used ever more often with ill-intent, and that for those with criminal intentions it is far too easy to obtain them. As the House is well aware, this is a longstanding policy position of my party. We believe that the most effective way to maintain law and order is for the government to assert its monopoly of violence: only the state can use legitimate force within its borders, and we must trust in our police to protect our citizens from crime. If we do that, and I believe we can, we can dispense with the myth perpetuated by the libertarians for ages that there is any need for law-abiding citizens to own guns. Message | Gicho-sama While this law would be laudable for the inner cities and other high crime areas, we do not believe it would best serve rural communities. Law abiding hunters and gamesmen would be punished for the violence of homicidal city rats. This would destroy jobs in the aforementioned areas. For that and other unduly centralising bills, we will abstain from voting. A better option would be.. you guessed it - to allow local governments to impose bans as fits the area.
