A few years of authortarian government by the so-called Democratic Workers Party and their allies do not change that fact, and therefore the Tukarese Democratic Union sees no necessity to change that flag. The election of mayors by the municipal councils has our sympathy and it is currently the practice in many councils with a UDT/TDU majority, but we would like to preserve the freedom of the councils to decide about it themselves, whether an election by the council, a direct election, or the whole council holding mayoral powers is the most appropriate solution for their respective municipality."
