MessageMr. Speaker,

It is a travesty that in our land trade unions are illegal. This most vital mouthpiece of the normal man and woman should not be muzzled. Let us remove this barbaric policy and set ourself alongside the other dignified nations of Terra who allow the power of representation to their people.

MessageMr. Speaker,

Dr. Polstaksi may not know Alorian history, but she does fulfill the saying by a famous Alorian writer: "history never repeats itself, but it does rhyme." This government was once at the mercy of trade unionism. People not only in my state, but across the nation, were distraught at the economic and social circumstances at the time. Schools and hospitals were burned and destroyed. Businesses were robbed and went bankrupt. Our nation was on the brink of default and was doing everything it could to stabilise this country. It took great effort to bring the parties together on this issue so that that kind of incident would not occur again.

Yet here we are, standing on the floor of this chamber, and the right honorable gentlelady thinks it appropriate to bring about the same havoc which nearly destroyed 4000 years of civilization. I am in utter shock at the position the LFP takes in regards to trade unionism. May I remind the honorable Congresswoman that the Bureau of Employee Safety has found all corporations nationwide to be in accordance with agency provisions to ensure worker safety and treatment? This is simply another platform issue to further shift our nation to become one that has an all-powerful government.

MessageStatement from the former President of Aloria.

Of course the right honorable gentleman from Ultran would promote the lack of corporate violations in worker's rights as a reasonable argument in opposition to this proposal. Aloria's lack thereof is the problem. There are no worker's protection to violate. The Labor Party welcomes this proposal in an effort to level the playing field for all hard working Alorian families. Our nation deserves both a free and fair market for long-term sustainability. As President I fought for these measures. And have seen for these last few decades, it be unraveled in the name of a free-market. Rather it is a tyrannical market for the powerful bankers and titans of industry.

Former-President

MessageMr. Speaker,

I respect the view of former President Ervin on this matter. There is a reason why the free market system benefits workers, regardless of the existence of trade unions. They have power, even individually, to choose which business to work in. Thanks to Aloria's great public and private education institutions, our workers are educated enough to know which situations are best for them. Without trade unions controlling business, businesses themselves must compete for labor. To do this, they must provide benefits, good wages, and a nice work environment.

Mr. Ervin may argue that because there are no trade unions, corporations exploit the workers. If this bill passes, we will see union bosses profit off of the expense of workers. This doesn't lead to business success, or workers' success, or to the greater good of our economy. This only feeds bitter fights between industry and labor. That is not what businesses want, that is not what the workers want, and that is not what Aloria needs at this time.

Gerald Fernando, a 55-year-old steel worker in my district in Ultran, explains it quite well.

"When I was younger, I didn't work for days because the Union leaders told us that if we could fail the business, they would give us benefits. At the time, I thought it was great, but that ended when the steel mill we used to work at went out of business completely and we all lost our jobs. Now, the business boss sees us often and provides a good wage for me and my grandchildren, who I raise because their parents passed away in a car accident. I already have a retirement program and I couldn't be more grateful for anything."

I strongly believe that business can and will do good. These small business owners are regular people themselves! Human compassion is the source of all growth, and the Union Party will continue to nurture pro-growth and pro-Alorian values.

MessageReply by former President Sandy Corrales

Its a travesty to believe that there is a leading party in Congress that is so out of touch with the realities of the average Alorian worker. The idea that Alorians have the pleasure of simply 'choosing' which business they work for is fallacious. Far too many Alorian businesses exploit the working poor, knowing the lack of social mobility in the current government's economic policies predicate an environment where they can be exploited. Cutting benefits and wages, while demanding increased productivity. This is what happens when we work for the bottom line, versus the human dynamic in our economy.

Unions are not perfect. I know their failings. As a lifetime union leader, working to be a founder of the Labor Party many decades ago. I am well aware of the shortcomings of unions, however, I know their advantages to Alorian workers far outweighs their solvable flaws.

Mr. Goyen, we can both be pro-growth and pro-Alorian, while working to advance our economy, strengthen our workers, and create an economy built to last for all Alorian families--rich or poor--lets get to work.

MessageMr. Speaker,

I respect the need to understand our history and to learn from its mistakes. However, when a government fears the empowerment of its workforce to better support, legal aid, representation and monitoring of standards then I am afraid that it appears that the government is against the workforce and not in favour of their rights.

I also agree with the concern that there have been in the past individuals within the unions who have abused their powers and acted with greed and disregard for public order or efficient economy. It is precisely for this reason that the bill makes union membership voluntary and not compulsory.

I agree with our former Presidents that to glibly suggest that any worker can simply choose a job if they are unhappy with their current one is stupid, to say the least.

This is a bill that will bring new energy and life into the workforce of our nation, it is something to be embraced and unafraid of.

With this in mind Mr. Speaker, following good debate and lively discussion, I commend this bill to the house for voting.

MessageMr. Speaker,

May I take this opportunity to congratulate Dr. Polstakski on a fine bill. May I also take this opportunity to announce that I will be running for President again but following discussions and a vote within the LFP we have decided that should my name not carry forward to the second ballot we will throw our support behind the experience and benevolence of the Labor Party.

MessageMr. Speaker,

If we're going to be discussing presidential elections, allow me to relay this message released by President Calvin Gillespie from the Executive Mansion in LlanymĂ´r, Sildar:

To respect the presidential custom of only serving two terms, as our nation's first two presidents Alan Belmore and Thomas Wickersham have done, I will not be running for re-election. I would also like to announce that Chairman Alfred Johnson is pursuing the nomination of the Union Party and is uncontested. I wish him the best of luck, but I will continue to serve with utmost humility and public service for the less than two years left in my second term. God bless Aloria.
