Bill: Ratification of the Artanian Union (AU)

Details

Submitted by[?]: Kirlawa Liberal Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill proposes for the ratification of a treaty. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor[?]. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: October 3703

Description[?]:

This bill asks for the ratification of the Artanian Union (AU). If this treaty is ratified, it becomes binding and will define national law. I believe if I'm not wrong that Kirlawa had ratified this treaty before but then dropped it, why? It strengthens ties with every other Artanian nation in this treaty the nations we are close to, I hope every party can see that this treaty is needed.

MessageThis would subject us to the will of foreigners, were expected to pass resolutions based off the rest of Artanias opinions? Kirlawa is for kirlawans!

MessageWhat you are saying is completely off base, Kirlawa can keep its culture but at the same time Kirlawans don't want to be isolated to just Kirlawa they are Terrians to aren't they? Kirlawans deserve to see how the world is like. As for foreigners, they have a right to see what our country is like and so what if it opens us up to them? Everyone is a Terrian so technically they are all of the same ethnicity. This will be also good for government friendships and free trade agreements.

MessageWe agree with the VVR here.

"This will be also good for [...] free trade agreements."

But KPJP _oppose_ free trade agreements....

MessageAlso,

"I believe if I'm not wrong that Kirlawa had ratified this treaty before but then dropped it, why?"

No, Kirlawa never ratified it.
It might perhaps have been _proposed_, but if so, it was defeated.

... and, after searching, I can't find the proposal bill ... so either it's hiding in some past bill with a different title, or maybe it was never proposed at all after all.
(For that matter, perhaps it was idly suggested by some other party but never actually proposed. I know for an absolute fact that KPJP never proposed it; we're against it.)

Message"IV.a - The Artanian Representative Council can pass "Resolutions" which member states are required to follow unless they are met with opposition on the home front from the populace of the nation. A resolution can be passed by a simple majority vote, meaning that more yes votes than no votes will warrant the passing of a resolution." We consider this an infringement of our sovereignty as well as destructive to representative government, how can foreigners far away from us determine our ways and decide what's best for us?

MessageWell, the three parties who voted against this before the election reset the vote, have generally gained seats collectively (KPJP did lose a very few but that's outweighed by substantial gains by KNFA);
while the one party that had been pushing this, lost seats and is now the smallest of the five.

Even if the Greens were to vote aye -- which I doubt -- it would still definitely fall short of the required two-thirds.
There's no need to put this back to vote.

Random fact: When forming a cabinet, try to include as few parties as possible, while still obtaining a majority of the seats.
