MessageJLP sees no reason to further the separation between church and state. This is not mandated in our constitution, and public officials should dress as they feel is appropriate in the exercise of their duties.

MessageThis is an attack on freedom of expression. If public officials wish to wear an artifact or religious clothing, who are we to say they can not ?
Quoting from above "officials should dress as they feel is appropriate in the exercise of their duties" - if they have to perfom a duty that has a religious observance tied to it (eg, opening a religious welfare centre, or speaking at the funeral of a religious figure, etc etc) we feel that this is ENTIRELY appropriate that the official dress in a religious manner.
Tolerance of religious beleifs is what needs to be acheived, not negatively reacting to a 'possible' offence.
PSS strongly oppose, and will propose counter legislation if passed.

MessageThe AAS must support the Progressive Party on this measure, although we wish to see this issue taken to the NEXT logical stage.

The Militant Atheist Front, of the AAS, insists that "Likatonian citizens can NEVER have freedom OF religion, UNTIL they can also have freedom FROM religion".

MessageThis is restricting freedom OF religion by granting people the right against seeing things.

MessageDoes the Strength Party believe it is, therefore, an infringement of freedom to prevent people from seeing babies being butchered? To prevent people from seeing those of darker skins being burned on crosses? To prevent people from seeing minorities from being gassed in death-camps?

All of these things have taken place in the name of 'ideology'... be that ideology a religious one, a political one, or some other unique approach.

We believe it is unfair for us to allow symbols that HAVE been used for barbaric and oppressive purposes in the past, to be publically displayed where they can cause offence.

MessageIt is an attack on tolerance. The citizens of our country are mature enough to realise that just because someone wears a religious symbol it does not mean that they are associated with the worst excesses of that religion. We have enough faith in the general populace to beleive that maturity, understanding and respect for another's position that is different to one's own in these matters will prevail.

This legislation is assuming that likatonians are religiously bigoted. We argue they are not.

MessageToo long has the Likatonian government been 'tolerant'. For far too long, all the power in the land has resided between the palms of the religious, who have used it as a tool to punish those with whom they disagree... like Likatonian Atheists, Agnostics, and minority religions.

The AAS believes it is high time that the Likatonian government took a stand against abuse BY the church.

MessageThe RLP opposes this attempt to restrict the right of public officials to wear the symbols they see fit. Would we also prohibit them from wearing any political symbols while excersising their functions? I think not!
